December 17th, 2010, at the National Culture Hall, Vientiane (Laos), Unitel has handed over the 500 education points connected with Internet - the result of the first phase of project “Internet to school” to Ministry of Education and Training of Laos.
Starting the project since December 2009, Unitel has been trying its best to complete installing free Internet to 500 schools and educational points nationwide by December, 2010. With this result, Unitel has finished 50% of its project, which includes more than 1,000 schools in total. The very first result of the project has brought about the chance to access Internet to improve the teaching and studying quality of Laos. Especially, teachers and pupils in rural and remote areas such as Phongsaly, Bokeo,… have been given free access to Internet by 3G, ADSL of EDGE technology for the 1st time.
During the handover ceremony, Unitel has presented three computers with 3G USBs to three outstanding students with free Internet access for one year, together with some additional funds to support their studying.
“Internet to school” program is the contribution of Unitel to develop the future generation of Laos. This program is a clear example of Unitel’s core philosophy: Harmonize business together with social responsibility.
